The Old Man and the Sea #4

The second part of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway is a longer more drawn out part. The Old Man, Santiago, is on his last day to get luck. He told himself that no one can ever go eighty five days without luck. He has been eighty four days and has not caught a fish. The other fishermen have caught a lot of fish. One man caught three nice big fish in one week. The boy, who helps the Old Man, wants to help the Old Man. The Old Man will not let him go because he is on a lucky boat and he needs the money. Santiago decides to go out to sea by himself for one last try. He has his pole in the water and all of a sudden, he got a bite. He knew it was a big fish and he held on to it. He knew that he luck has changed and he caught a big fish. He followed the fish a whole day before he even had a look at it. When he did see the fish, it was a huge marlin. It was really pretty with a purple tint and it was HUGE!! He chose to hang with the fish longer knowing that the fish will not be able to eat so it will starve. He also knew that the fish would grow tired. The Old Man had little to eat and had no help what so ever. The fish jumped out of the water and the rope cuts the Old Man's hand. Santiago's hand is bleeding and is going numb. Once the fish starts to get tired and he dies, the Old Man catches it. He ties the big marlin fish to the side of the boat. Santiago and his new lucky fish start on their way home. While on the way home, the fish starts getting attacked by sharks. Santiago tries as hard as he can to keep the sharks away and he also kills some. The Old Man lost to all the sharks and the sharks ate the fish to the bones. Once the Old Man gets to the docks, he goes straight to his shack and sleeps. The boy comes and cares for him. The younger fishermen see the big fish that is caught and they feel sorry for the Old Man.
